2000 Years old Morals – The Canon Law

In Roman Catholic nomenclature both bride and bride-groom have to undergo a counseling session before marriage. This is mandatory course for all church superintended marriages. I been told this session is to give an overview of different aspects of married life. Veterans in family subjects will come and address the novice couples. There would be some basic sex education as well, all in which I thought would be a great concept as many of the people here in my place are deprived of some basic life sciences!

Dec 07 (Sunday) – I picked up Jane from her Adyar house by 8 in the morning and we left to Pallavaram Church for the first session. We preferred Pallavaram which comes under Chengalpattu diocese that conducts 2 sessions over Chennai which needs 3 sittings.

After registration we entered in to the session hall, there were around 60 people awaiting the session to begin. Some of them were pairs and some were alone.

To my surprise, the first topic was “RC-Christian Law (Canon Law)” and then I realized the whole idea behind this concept is not to give awareness to couples rather to propagate RC-Christian doctrines!

The base of the Canon Law is nothing other than the Twelve Tables of Roman Law which was formed 2000 years ago! I had to admit a lot of changes had happened in the doctrines as compared to those ignorant days but still some traces of it left behind.

Those are biblical days – Slavery is considered legal, women were treated like just mean property, Earth was considered flat (still now a Christian fanatic group believes Earth is flat because it said so in the Bible, pl. refer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flat_Earth_Society), Church the supreme power that ruled the nation (dark ages) etc…etc…!

What do you can expect from a law which has base set on the above fallacies? Being a secular person and freethinker, I was so annoyed clearly being in a place where I don’t belong. Cursing my fate, wanted to do a Christian Marriage as per my Mom’s wish L

That time I know very little about her but one thing I know for sure in religious aspect, Jane and I almost share similar ideologies. To her Secular or Non-Secular, Atheist or Theist are all just terms, she does what she thinks right and not a religious person at all.

There are quite lot of stuffs, but let me highlight couple of fallacies that I feel more ridiculous.

Contraception – Church condemns the usage of any contraceptive measures. It is punishable by death sin (Savaana Pavam – in Tamil). This is what Pope Benedict XVI reaffirmed in Africa, that even for preventing Sexually Transmitting Diseases like AIDS you are not suppose to use Condoms. These are the morons who think that AIDS is one another epidemic killer disease like leprosy thrown at mankind by the so called righteous, loving, caring GOD to punish homosexuals.

It is very sad, without any apparent reason Church propagating this nonsense even today. Poor ignorant people following it or not, its another big topic to debate!?!

Abortion
Abortion is considered as punishable by death sin under all circumstances. This rule won’t be relaxed even for any medical grounds that the fetus is mentally/ physically challenged.

In one of the sessions the father was citing the example of sensational Niketa and Harsha Mehta case where in a Christian organization offered to raise the baby that would need a pacemaker from the birth and would not able to lead a normal life. He was so stupidly taking pride of what the Christian Organization has done, without realizing the agony of those parents. Its not the question of raising the physically challenged kid, its all about seeing your kid live in pain day in and day out and eventually falling behind its age group no matter whoever raises the kid.

For the matter for information, the fetus start developing the central nervous by 4th week and it will come to complete shape by 25th week. Without nervous system, you can’t feel anything it is just a cluster of cells formed by mitosis and meiosis. The heart starts beating in the 5th week though, can anyone define when fetus gets life? If we talk about destroying a potential life, millions of sperms in semen, ova are all potential life! How many sperms getting wasted in the process of finding an ovum? That’s what the nature is all about, Survival of the Fittest and Natural Selection.

In Biblical days we don’t have any apparent explanation for complex medical science, but now we do have. Considering the above even Indian govt’s MPT (Medical Pregnancy Termination) 1971 Act allows abortion till 20th week. So in India it is perfectly legal to abort a fetus before 20th week and also after 20th week proven if it is fatal for the mother!

Morally does abortion is wrong? Its certainly a question of debate. Blindly saying no to abortion under all circumstances is moronic!
